Travel diary│Athens, Greece

Posted on Posted in Lifestyle

Hello everyone!

As you may know, I went to Athens in July. It is a while ago, but I still wanted to do a travel diary because I loved it there so much. I hope you guys get some tips from this post if you want to go there as well. I can recommend it a lot though. Let’s go!

Day 1: Arrival

I didn't get much photo's the first day because we arrived at nighttime. We flew with Jetairfly, a part of the Tui-group. We just unpacked and got some cocktails at the bar at our arrival.

Day 2: Exploring the neighbourhood

Today we spent exploring our hotel and the area around us. We stayed in Hotel Golden Coast in Marathon. It is a nice 4 star hotel if you are looking for a beach vacation within a reasonable budget. I've been on more exclusive places, but this was definitely a good hotel.

The place was decorated so nicely. I loved the nature the domain had.

Day 3: Beach hike to Nea Makri

Nea Makri was the village that was the closest to our hotel, so ofcourse we wanted to go there for some sightseeing. We hiked by the beach, because it is so relaxing to walk there. In the village we went for some drinks and a swim in the Ionian Sea.

On our walk we saw some kind of swamp where a million of turtles were swimming. The amount of turtles was amazing. They were accompanied by some birds.

Day 5: Water sports, beach, Greek food

Today we stayed at our hotel but we didn’t want to just lay there like a dead fish so we did something more active. We got on a sofa ride! This was so much fun to do. Afterwards, we went on a pedalo to explore the a bit more. We got an amazing view of the shore whilst being on our pedalo. At night we enjoyed some typical Greek food, moussaka. It was amazing.

On our sofa ride! I know it looks goofy but it is so much fun. I can only recommend for you guys doing it.

Day 6: Citytrip to Athens

I was very excited for this day because when I go on a holiday, I really want to see things at my destination. I think it’s a shame when you travel hours to see a foreign country and all you do is lay by an artificial pool. Let me take you along on this day.

First thing we did in the morning was visiting the Akropolis. It was the city of Athens before its expansion. It lies above Athens.

The buildings are breathtaking. I loved strolling around there. We also saw the Parthenon.

The old city lies higher so that way, the Akropolis provides you a 360° view that you will remember for a long time.

I was so happy to see all of these monuments. It enriched me and taught me so much. It was impressive to see all the things we talked about in history when I was still in high school.

Day 7: Market at Marathon

Today we wanted to go to Marathon because it was so close to us. Famous for its marathon, we didn’t want to skip this. We went to the local market.

The fish was installed on a giant pile of ice. You could see it was fresh.
