It is finally that time again: Christmas and new years. It is the most beautiful time of the year. My mom tries to incorporate every season into her decoration in our house. I decided to create a slightly different blogpost and dedicate it to my mom. Let me take you guys along on a decorative tour around our house!
My mom is very much into decorating the house and she loves shopping for it and she takes a lot of time to make everything look perfect. Maybe you guys can get some ideas for your own home. I hope you like this post!
Come in and let our house warm you up a bit in these cold days. If you enter our living room, the first festive decoration you see is on our little table in front of the tv. This decoration isn’t really Christmassy (is that even a word?) but it is winter-related. The colours are frost-tinted and they have a touch of pink. The balls on the plate are shiny and some of them have glitter on them. When the evening comes, we light the candles in the little vases for a cosy feeling.
Next to this booth of decoration we can find three little vases and a candlelight. The vases are in a coppertint, what gives them a festive and new-years touch. My mom decided to put a little flower in the vases. It gives the decoration a fresh contrast. It is winter, there are almost no flowers and everything is covered in snow (well, sometimes.) My mom created a contradiction here by putting flowers in her festive decorations. I think it turned out very well and it doesn’t exclude it from the rest of the decoration. It gives a nice touch to our house.
When we move on we come to a little box next to our warm stove. Here, we can find our traditional Santa Claus. He’s here every year and mom never forgets to put him up. He has a beige and gold colour, what fits very good in the rest of our interior. On the box itself there are three snowmen. One big snowman and two little ones. I think they are very cute! Next to them you can find two pine trees. They have a snowy look. On the back there is an on/off-switch and then the trees light up. Gradually, they change in other colours.
Moving on to our dining table, you can see two big globes with ornaments in them. They have a golden colour. There are also stars in them to change it up a little. I think it is a very original idea.
On our long dresser there are several decorations. First off; there is our red Santa Claus. Just like the other one, he can’t be missing a December. He is surrounded by some candlelights.
In the middle of the dresser, there is a plateau with little vases on. It is kind of similar to the ones on our little table. Moving on to the other side, you can see two pinecones under a globe. They have a wooden underground. This is a very original idea to me. I’ve never seen it before and it is festive and it fits perfectly in this season. They are surrounded by mistletoes, also very fitting for the occasion. Above our window, we have a wreath hanging. My mom really likes her wreaths. It has a bow and white stars.
We are now at the final piece of our tour in my home and that is the crown of the whole thing, the Christmas tree! I think our Christmas tree is very cosy and snugly. It gives you a resting and relax feeling. The theme colour is gold. There are solid ornaments and glitter ornaments. My mom chose a star as the peak of our tree.
Theme of our decorations
As you know by now, the overal theme of our decorations are gold, creme and beige coloured. My mom likes soft tints and doesn’t like harsh and yelling stuff because it isn’t comforting. You can really come home and relax in our house. The only thing you’ll need is a soft blanket to snuggle up in front of our stove! Maybe you can drink a caramel hot chocolate? I decided not to show our decorations outside of the house, although we do have some. I think it is another department and just kept in here!
Ideas and trends
Just for the sake of this post, I decided to put some trends and ideas I found on Pinterest in here. Maybe it can be helpful for your own decoration and you’ll get some more inspired, besides the ideas my mom came up with.
Trend 1: white and silver
In 2015 it’s all about white decorations. The trend is to make your decorations look like they come out of the snow.
Give your home a coastal twist. White and blue are a way to stay trendy this holiday season. This is a very original look. I am not the biggest fan of this look, but it is definetly a change in decor. If you are into nautical deocrations, you should definetly give it a go!
Trend 3: exotic fruit
This trend is innovating and traditional at the same time. Incorporating fruit is something that I already saw my grandma do. She had gold and silver apples with glitter in her tree a long time ago. Now, the trend is back. Lemons and oranges are a way to break through the monotony of Christmas decorations. Combined with pinecones, it looks really nice.
Trend 4: little decorations in globes
This trend is all over Pinterest. pinecones, ornaments, fruits,… Al kinds of decorations are put in a globe. It gives a unique and interesting touch to your decoration. It is a simple idea but it looks sophisticated and put together.
Christmas tree tip
Put your tree in front of your window. That way, people outside can see the Christmaslights shine through the window. Your Christmas tree should really stand out and be the main piece of your home this time of the year. Then you can enjoy your tree from the inside and the outside.
That was it for this week, I hope you liked this post and feel free to leave a comment!
